beauty wishlist: jane belfry

My girl crush on Ms. Belfry has not abated yet - I don’t think it ever will. She has such exquisite taste in everything from footwear to home decor, and naturally that taste translates to her beauty wishlist for this holiday season. I need to get my hands on some Byredo!

Cire Trudon - Versailles Woodworks Candle: $80 is steep for a candle even for me, a full fledge Diptyque addict. But this Cire Trudon number sounds too good to pass up; anything that claims to smell of “wooden floors and palace” has me completely sold.

Byredo - Seven Veils: I am a huge fan of Byredo and a devotee of Gypsy Water, which is THE perfect spring/summer scent. Ben Gorham’s newest offering, Seven veils, is a woody vanilla that could just be my perfect winter scent.

Sunday Riley - Liquid Light Breathable Foundation: I have been waiting on Sunday Riley’s makeup launch with bated breath. I fell in love with their Juno Riley Transformative Serum, a dry oil that leaves your skin with the most perfect glow. The Ceramic Slip cleanser is equally mind blowing. I cannot wait to try their foundation, one step forward in making each one of my products paraben/scary chemical free.

By Terry - Laque de Rose in Sinful Rose: I am a sucker for rose tinted balms, this one is formulated with the same ingredients as By Terry’s balm to end all balms, Baume de Rose.

beauty interview: jane belfry

You’ve seen Jane here before, and I’ve mentioned her a dozen times. That’s because I have a girl crush on her, her style and her arsenal of beauty products. Not only is Jane an accomplished stylist, but she’s a beauty expert too. I’m glad I have her to dish with about things no one else cares about, like Frederic Malle and NARS lip crayons. Since I can’t get enough of her, naturally she’s my newest beauty interview. Enjoy!

When did you start wearing makeup? - I have really early memories of sneaking into my mother’s bathroom and putting on Estee Lauder lipstick and blush. But I would have to say at around 12 or 13 I started wearing makeup.

Who taught you/what products did you use? - My older sister Andrea played a large part, she is 7 years older than me and when we were younger she loved to curl my hair (I have a scar on my ear that I never let her live down) and do my makeup. We used to read Vogue and W together; I was always really into the beauty articles. I remember using a lot of Bobbi Brown products, mainly because I had that “Bobbi Brown: Teenage Beauty” book. I read it so many times the images are engraved in my brain. I also modeled a bit when I was younger and I would pay really close attention when I worked with makeup artists, I would write down the products that they used and watch them apply everything in great detail. I feel like that taught me a lot.

What is your greatest beauty strength? - I guess I would say my skin. I used to resent being so pale (perhaps due to going to school in Edina for some time, which was full of tanorexics) but now I really love it and feel like it sets me apart.

What is your daily beauty routine? - In the morning I either cleanse with Arcona’s White Tea Cleanser or swipe an Arcona Triad Pad over my face. A couple times a week I use Arcona Cranberry Gommage in the morning. Then I spritz on Caudalie Beauty Elixir and follow with Arcona Chamomile Balm and Eye Dew. After that I use Arcona Peptide Hydrating Complex and their Desert Mist and follow with SPF 40 at least. Since spring is upon us I switched from foundation to Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain. After that I use Yves Saint Laurent Touch Eclat under my eyes, on my cheekbones, brow-bones, and the bridge of the nose. Then, I use a fair amount of Benetint on my cheeks and follow with NARS highlighting powder in Venus, or more recently, Make Up Forever’s HD Powder. The I use NARS Portobello for my brows and follow with a clear brow gel. Onto the eyes, I use Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils Volume Effect Mascara and and a swipe of L’Oreal Precision liquid liner which is the best liquid liner on earth, I am convinced. My lipstick changes daily.

As far as hair goes I wash it 2 or 3 times a week with either Klorane Almond Shampoo or Phiip B. Shea Butter and condition with Klorane Chamomile conditioner or Philip B. White Truffle. then I use a couple drops of Rodin Olio Lusso Hair Oil and blow dry or air dry. I then either set my hair in hot rollers or curl it with the Sultra Bombshell “1 iron. I never ever wear it straight. I am also addicted to Klorane dry shampoo, I use it in between washes.

At night, I cleanse and tone (same as above) and use the Arcona Gentle Solution or the Papaya Enzyme Gel two/three days a week, follow with the Vitamin A Complex. I switch off between Creme de La Mer and Rodin Olio Lusso Face Oil as my nightly moisturizer. Two or three nights a week I do a mask and peel. Arcona Raspberry Resurfacing Peel and the Wine Hydrating Mask. Phew, OK I’m done.

What are your favorite products? What can’t you live without? -My favorite fragrances right now are Le Labo Rose 31, Frederic Malle French Lover, and Byredo Gypsy Water. I think they make up the perfect fragrance wardrobe. I could not live without my Arcona, the product line totally changed my skin. Having a clear, glowing complexion is a priority to me and Arcona delivers that. I am newly addicted to Smashbox’s lip stains, they are extremely pigmented and stay on literally all night without reapplication. My favorite shade right now is Sangria. Hair wise, I cannot live without my Rodin Olio Lusso Hair Oil, it is pretty much the only product I use next to occasional hairspray. It makes my hair silky, shiny, and manageable plus it smells amazing. Oh, and Fresh Sugar Rose lip treatment.

Who are your beauty icons? -Anita Eckberg, Monica Vitti, Anouck Aimee, Brigitte Bardot
